Sat outside watching a meteor shower light up the night sky, the temperature was like velvet and the view crystal clear. I was thinking about the rarity of a night like this, how small I am, how vast the solar system. I struggle with my place in the universe. How exactly do I fit in? There is no answer to this question. It’s like trying to figure out where the sky ends. Ivy Baker Priest says, “The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning.” This is too much to calculate when I’m trying to retire with the day. All I see is the sky kissing the land goodnight. I notice everything is at rest except the water. I can hear the waves pummeling the shore. The sound is so constant it becomes part of the scenery and it lulls me like music. This is the perfect end to a perfect day. God is showering me with celestial light and I feel at one with all that is, all that ever was, all that is to be.
